[...] Finally, there’s this: the power of the cyberspace and the blogosphere’s viral effect, online, and the resulting offline, to influence people and events. There are those who may think that this is a victory of the blogosphere (not that Manolo or Arbet do, as they opine), and such people may be right. I think, however, the blogger with the best take on this is The Nashman, who says: If people were as angry at the current government who actually does evil things than hunting a paper tiger like Malu then we’d be better off.
apparently, journalists fear a mob -- or in this case, a virtual mob -- more than they fear a libel case. for people who have no capacity to file a libel case, joining a blog mob would be the second best thing to do. at least it has a better chance at achieving something (good or bad) than a one-person campaign.

now, this is getting ridiculous.

Rina Jimenez-David in her latest column (Measuring Happiness) inserted this statement: "Lest I get bombarded with hate mail and hounded out of this space let me just say..." before going on to explain something.

Whether she used this for comical effect or she was really compelled to offer an explanation to clarify another one is not clear on her column. But the point, I'm sure is not lost on most readers. Some journalists must now feel like navigating on an eggshell.

I'm not a journalist, I'm not even a regular blogger but this is the part that I don't like about all this. Malu Fernandez threw the first punch and the bloggers finished the fight.

And "freedom of expression" came out bruised and battered. So bad, it's now unrecognizable.

the bloggers are on a roll and with their newfound power... why stop now?

there are things that are more harmful to the OFWs and their families than malu fernandez, even deadlier.

like for instance, the philippine government.

I for one am not claiming her resignation as a victory for the blogosphere (the part that dealth with the issue that is) alone. It's a victory for everyone who stood up against her bigotry, abuse of the freedom of expression and the power of the mainstream media.
