A friend posted the following:
“You see, I think there comes a time when a man has to ask himself whether he wants a life of happiness or a life of meaning.”
“I’d like to have both.”
“It can’t be done. Two very different paths. I mean, to be truly happy a man must live absolutely in the present, and with no thought of what’s gone before, and no thought of what lies ahead. But a life of meaning, a man is condemned to wallow in the past, and obsess about the future.”
Isn’t it possible to be happy in wallowing in the past and obsessing about the future? What do you think?
Yes, it’s possible. Your present is nothing but an extension of your past and future is nothing but an extension of your present. If you can find the connections and the future (as an extension of your present) can be visualized as per your desires, perhaps you’ll feel contented right now.
Other than that take a very difficult subject to study or a difficult skill to master. And then pursue that with a lot of passion. Past and future and present will all seem happy.
Hi, Siddharth, thanks!
